After the announcement of Edwards as Kerry’s running mate, it only took a nanosecond for the “ewwww, he’s a trial lawyer” comments to start. As if just being a politician weren’t bad enough.
Jumping on Edwards’ case because he’s inexperienced is one thing, but dredging up a worn out stereotype is just lazy namecalling. Or, as Monsieur Hill says: Yeah, but would you vote for Perry Mason?
So, here’s my question: If you could only vote for a fictional lawyer for President, whom would you choose? (Bonus points for the coolest dream team Prez/Veep combo)
I know who Grandpa Simpson wants: Maaaaaatlock!
Jack McCoy and Abby Carmichael. No question.
Atticus Finch, of course!
Denny Crane for Prez, with Matt Murdoch as his Veep.
OMG, that’s how out of it I am. I know who Matt Murdock is, but I had to look in Wikipedia to find out that William Freaking Shatner played Denny Crane in the final season of “The Practice”. Too funny!
Captain Picard for Prez and Mr. Spock for Veep.
They’re not lawyers, dingbat!
Mmmmmm……….Matlock.
In the interests of full disclosure, I had to look up the charcters name myself. I just remember watching Shatner playing that character, but I couldn’t remember the name.
Ally McBeal and Billy, then. At least that way, when something stupid happens in Washington, we’ll know why. So there.
{grumbles about being called ‘dingbat’}
Kirk and Spock. Dude, the world would rock with Kirk and Spock.
Now, look, I’m as geeky as the next nerd, but just because I mentioned Shatner’s name BECAUSE HE PLAYED A LAWYER, it doesn’t mean that we’ve shifted into “Which Star Trek characters would make a better President?” That’s a completely different meme.
Lawyers, people.
Ya know? Like Arnie Becker, Grace Van Owen, Lawrence or Kenneth Preston (cookies for who gets that without Google)… or Harvey Birdman… 🙂
my vote is for Jack McCoy though i’m not so sure about that Abby Carmichael.
