How cynical have we become?
Justin Timberlake accidentally rips open Janet Jackson’s shirt during the Super Bowl halftime extravaganza, and we all jump to conclusions about their motives.

exposed nipples bring families closer together. as evidenced: a long debate ensued, lasting well until the last half of the 4th quarter (we were hoping to see some real quality FOOTBALL being played–alas.) was it planned, was she really shocked? did he like it? are Janet, LaToya, and Michael all the same person? was Justin only looking for his missing jerry curl? Special K argued a strong case on the “faked publicity stunt” front, while Jodi simply pointed out the look of real shock on poor Janet’s face (maybe b/c she lost ‘Control’?), and I maintain that the break-away piece was only supposed to reveal a portion of the booby, but the entire booby was mistakenly exposed by an overzealous Justin, which produced Janet’s look of horror. i mean, we all know Janet is not one to take her clothes off in public, so this must have come as a real shock to her. meanwhile, Pete, Chris, Dave, Jim, and Randy mutually agreed that planned or not, the boobie showing was a real treat in an otherwise dull, dull game.
We had all switched to CNN to see the MoveOn ad, so we missed the exposure bit. Maybe Justin was trying to make a point about CBS’s hypocrisy in not showing the “advocacy” ad? *snort*
What I find particularly amusing is CBS’ reaction to the whole thing. The response, and their attitude about this silly little incident is ridiculous. I mean, it happened so fast, and at a distance where not one person on TV could see any sort of detail, so what’s the fuss? No sinle child was inadverantly exposed to the horror of a female breast, partially in the open, to scar their tender little psyche’s.
Fer crying out loud, look at what they show on Big Brother or Survivor. That is way more exposure. And how about the awards shows? Anyone remember Lil’Kim, and her completely exposed lefty, with nothing but a pasty on it, and Diana Ross giving it a little heft? No doubt countless others we could come up with, showing off a lot more than Janet did, ostensibly by accident. Sheesh, the hypocrisy (sp?) of network suits never fails to amaze me.

(but it must be pointed out, re: the Schmuck’s rant, that Lil’ Kim’s exposed boobie was on cable rather than network tv. good point about Survivor, though. ie: last season during a challenge when that blonde chick’s top came completely off…)
