When will it start making my coffee?

Thanks to Lisa, I now know that Google has a built-in calculator! Just key in something with a math expression into the search bar (simple, like 2+2, or complex, like 2^(4 + pi), which is 141.199645 for those of you scoring at home, and voila!

I already use it as my instant spell checker. And one of the worst things about being offline was living without my long-term memory and fact checker.

Now, if only they were fair and balanced in their page rankings…

Fair and Balanced Friday

To be fair and balanced, I don’t think that everyone at Fox News is a drooling moron. A couple of them need remedial drooling classes to rise to that level. But on the fair and balanced whole, their lawsuit against Al Franken for using their “trademarked” tagline of Fair and Balanced is going to score major brownie points with the RDC teacher. (They’re afraid people will be confused and think Franken is working for them. Hey! Maybe they’re just trying to break into comedy!)

In a fair and balanced look at how this kind of frivilous crap might be turned on someone with less means of defending themselves, Neal Pollack and Atrios have declared tomorrow Fair and Balanced Friday. On the fair and balanced theory that the entire blogiverse is too big to sue, all fair and balanced bloggers are called upon to take a fair and balanced look at the lunacy that is this suit.

Tomorrow, be fair and balanced (or not) in your use of the term “fair and balanced”. Change your tagline. Come up with a fair and balanced news story. It’s the fair and balanced thing to do.

I Thought He’d Never Leave

I was so over this guy after his first post. So long, loser.

The Miss Blogiverse Contest

I’m not going to state any preferences in the Sexiest Female Blogger poll (not until the checks clear anyway), but there are some dyn-o-mite female types listed. It’s all fun, fun, silly-willy. But the guy better fix Michele’s name soon…

Who would I have nominated that’s not on the list, you ask? Well, my blogroll is right over here.

The most glaring omissions, of course, were branalicious, the pickled one, the jaded one, Busy Mom and Miss Canada, but I could spend all day adding to such a list…digging myself into a deeper hole by pissing off the ones I didn’t list.

Perhaps I’ll start my own “Grooviest Blogger” poll. Yeah…that’s what I need…something to stir up jealousy and rancor.

I’ll work on it.

Do worry warts come from worry frogs?

Riddle me this, Batman…

Should I be more worried about putting a comma in the wrong place in a comment left someplace I can’t edit it or worrying about worrying about putting a comma in the wrong place in a comment left someplace I can’t edit it? Or about where the commas should or should not go in the above sentence (edited at least twice in the last 20 seconds)? Or for starting a sentence with “or”?

I need help.

Amina Lawal

Amnesty International Australia: Amina Lawal

I can’t say it any better than Mordant:

Amina Lawal is going to be stoned to death for having a baby. I’ll repeat that for the hard of thinking: Amina Lawal, a breathing, feeling, thinking, human being, is going to be buried up to her neck in the ground and get rocks chucked at her head till she dies because she’s had a baby.

I know, it probably won’t do much. And you’ve heard stories like this before. And you’re busy. And you’ve got your own problems. And that’s just one person, what about all the others? And you might get spam. And you’ll do it later. And whatever the hell else excuse I missed.

Please sign the petition. Thank you.

Waiting For Frodo is back!

After a break, Debbie Ridpath Ohi is back with the saga of Sam, Rosie, Pippin, Gladys, Irma and their nemeses (the Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. fans): Waiting For Frodo. A good place to start (since you’re not doing anything but waiting for Return of the King anyway, right?), is at the beginning. It’s hard to believe it’s been two years since Sam first got in line.
