The mind…she wanders…

When I made the previous post, the quote from Dieter of Sprockets led me to a list of recurring Saturday Night Live characters and sketches, which led me to Kenan Thompson. I loved All That when he, Kel Mitchell, Amanda Bynes, Lori Beth Denberg, Josh Server and Danny Tamberelli were on it. (Did you know that Kenan is in Snakes on a Plane?)

This, of course, led to Kel Mitchell, who was part of the cast of Mystery Men (The Invisible Boy), which I loved, despite its “flop” status, and it reminded me of other movies that I really like in spite of the fact that no one outside this family seems to think is worthy of enjoyment (like Rat Race).

So, after all that meandering, I come down to two questions:

1. What are your favorite recurring SNL characters?
Mine are the Church Lady (“Could it be…SATAN?”), Grumpy Old Man (“And we LIKED it!”), Master Thespian (“ACTING!”), Roseanne Roseannadanna (“I thought I was gonna die!”), Emily Litella (“Never mind.”), and Tommy Flanagan (“Yeah, that’s the ticket!”).

2. What are your favorite quirky movies? (Even better if they were flops!)
Mind are the aforementioned “Mystery Men” and “Rat Race”…plus, Brain Candy and Too Wong Foo.

Favorite quirky movies? Mystery Men, for sure — one of the best superhero movies, ever.

And who could forget Buckaroo Banzai? 🙂

Curse a’you Banzai! Don’t you realize what you say??!?

“What’s all this I hear about violins in movies?”

    “It’s violence.”

“Oh. Never mind.” (I *love* Emily.)

    Quirky movie: _Death Becomes Her_

  3. MJ says:

    Land Shark (Chevy Chase)

    Samarai Futaba (John Belushi)

    Pat (Julia Sweeney)

Coffee Talk with Linda Richman (Mike Myers)

And let’s not forget the Mr. Bill Show!

My favorite quirky movie (probably because I just saw it again the other night) is About Schmidt “Dear Ndugu,”

Along with Land Shark and Mr.Bill, I liked The Blues Brothers, The Wild and Crazy Guys, Buckwheat, Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood, and Opera Man. Those are all I can think of right now…

    Floppish movies….hmmmm.

One of my absolute favorites is Undercover Blues. “I am Muerte, I am Death. I will kill you.” “Oh, Hi Morty.”

With more time, I could probably come up with too many more.

Did I mention how cool it is that you refer to your mind with a feminine pronoun?

    🙂

John Cleese is actually on record saying he loved Rat Race. Granted he was in it, but you apparently have good taste.

Unfortunately I can’t comment on my own personal movie tastes since apparently I have no taste.
