Ah, the sweet smell of civilization!

Hallelujah and praise Progress Energy! We arrived home from Grump’s house tonight at about 9:15 and saw the warm glow of electric goodness shining through the windows!

Thanks to all who called to make sure we were ok. And thanks to Ric the Schmuck for being quite un-schmuck-like and checking on us at regular intervals. It helps to get through these things when you know you’ve got friends who care.

Our thoughts are with those who didn’t escape Frances quite so easily. If you could toss a few pennies at the Red Cross right now, they’d probably appreciate the help. They’re still lending the west coast of Florida a hand from Charley, and now they’ve got widespread devastation from Frances to deal with.

By the way, glad I could help, what little I’ve been doing. Making a call every now and then is the least I could do. And I want you folks all safe and sound, for when you come to your senses and come home! Away from all those nasty hurrycanes. (ducking)

    😀

you know i am not an optimisit.

i entertained horrific visions of scattered, bloodied limbs detached by gale force winds and flying rubbish, separated from their rightful bodies–i imagined the touching eulogy i would write in your honor. (remembering with GREAT reverence that you so kindly wrote mine, many moons ago…) i shed tears of blood at the thought of your near-future death. there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth; much wringing of the hands.

–which is an exaggeration of what really happened. i DID sit by the teevee so i could track Frances; i DID relay my fears to Pete and anyone who would listen that my friend and his family might get hurt, and i was insanely worried. i spent some time pacing the room until Ric the Schmuck so un-schmuckly posted an update–and then i breathed a sigh of relief. i contemplated cashing in on the offer to call your cellphone; but, i figured you wouldn’t really want to speak with a deranged psycho after battling nature for your very lives. (and i figured, being a state of emergency, the airwaves might be jammed, there would most likely be family and close friends trying to call rather than fluff-brained blog friends such as me, and you might just be busy doing more important things like sifting rubble or dodging unnatural flying objects.)

at any rate, i am so relieved to know that you are all ok. welcome back to blogland, O Sol o’ mine.
