Stupid Cowboys

Stupid Redskins. I missed points in our office pool this week by one lousy game. Still, I only missed 4 this week.

34-12. Why the hell am I not making money at this? (Heh. I just saw Fate put on her steel-toed boot and warm up her ass-kicking move.)

Meanwhile, the Sox clinched their annual tease-us-into-thinking-this-might-be-the-year playoff spot. And there was much rejoicing.

Go, go, Ichiro!

Jeanne still blows

We’re still getting wind and rain from this stupid storm. Just when you think it’s finally over, here comes a 60 mph wind gust.

Our power has been off and on all day. Just off enough to make it annoying to watch TV, but not on enough to keep the PC running. Overall, other than the big tree falling down from Charley, this one did more damage than any of the three (we lost the rest of the fence and a few shingles), but we didn’t get crushed under a massive pine.

Sure the world wide web is great, but you, you make me salvivate…

We still have power. Woo-hoo!

I shut down the pc late last night to avoid getting it fried in a power surge, then tried to sleep. HA! That went well. I sat up watching TV all night (alternating between news and Muppet Treasure Island). Finally fell asleep about 6:30am and got up an hour or so ago. So far, we haven’t lost anything but more fence pieces and the screens for our screen room. *knocking on wood till his knuckles bleed*

We’re still getting some killer winds here, but I think the steady 50-60 mph crap is behind us. Rain’s coming down in buckets. Not nearly so bad as other places. I just saw where the streets down toward Kissimmee are completely under water and it’s Tampa’s turn to get pounded.

Got a call from Ric the Schmuck checking on us. Here’s a tip for you out-of-state folks: if you want to know what’s going on, don’t go to the Weather Channel’s site; go to OrlandoWeather.com

And if you go to see Napoleon Dynamite, do not leave before the credits are finished!

I love technology, but not as much as you, you see… But i STILL love technology… Always and forever.

Our own private Idaho

We gave up on worrying about the hurricane. We still have almost all the emergency supplies from last time (kinda hard to use them up in a fricking week), so we just decided to pretend it wasn’t there.

A little before noon, we headed out, got some emergency cash from the ATM (our last bit of storm prep work), grabbed some lunch at Arby’s, a coffee at the new Barnes & Noble, then went to see a movie. All afternoon, we’ve been laughing our asses off at Napoleon Dynamite.

Oh my freaking hell, that was one of the funniest movies I’ve seen all year. It’s not a movie that everyone is going to understand, I’m sure. But for our strange family of geeks, it was hilarious.

Is it Friday? Must be time for a hurricane!

This one started to head out to sea, then went, “Crap! Where is my head? I almost forgot to devastate Florida!”

The thing is, we’re so mentally beaten up now that no one has the energy to care. We’ve gone from frantically making sure everything is stocked up, tied down, shut down, closed early and evacuated to “Hey, you gonna leave that PC running all weekend? Yeah. Screw it.”

Stay safe, my bruised and battered compadres. Only 67 more days to go!

Football: Week 3

Well now! After two weeks of this crap, I’m in first place in the standings at 24-8. Not too shabby for a football hater, eh?

Can I continue in this dance with the NFL pick devil? Or will it be the week I meet my (say it! say it!) moosey fate…?

It’s almost clobberin’ time!

I’ve never been a huge Fantastic Four fan. Whether or not the “World’s Greatest Comic Magazine” lived up to its name, really depended on who was writing it (unlike Spider-Man, who seems to survive a hokey script much better). But I am kinda looking forward to the new Fantastic Four movie.

USA Today has an article on the actors lined up to portray Sue Storm Richards (Invisible Woman), Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Ben Grimm (The Thing) and Johnny Storm (The Human Torch). And Fantastic Four Hype has the latest pictures of the characters.

Again with the ancient history

It’s good to know I’m not the only geek that played in a garage band

The SGCBL Wants You!

I’m a pretty silly person. (I know. Shocking. Don’t fall out of your chair.)

One of the silliest pursuits I have pursued is this Tolkien Baseball League. (Oh, stop it. Your eyes will get stuck like that, ya know.) It’s wicked fun!

For those new to the proceedings, I’m a geek. (Will you quit it with those looks!) And the geekiest sport on the planet has got to be baseball. It’s a stat freak’s paradise.

Computer baseball, where you don’t have to deal with pesky players and their agents, is even better. I ran a computer baseball league in Maine for five years, but I gave it up when we moved to Florida. Then, last year, I found Out of the Park Baseball and decided to start up a little online league. When I couldn’t think of names for each of the divisions, someone (Cableman or Grump) suggested Shire vs. Mordor. It kinda got outta hand from there…
