Checkin’ In

Hello from the land of the crappy dial-up connection. No, they don’t want you spending time in the hotel room in Las Vegas. So, crappy dial-up and only local channels on the TV. I’ve lost connection twice just typing this, not to mention that I’m watching the fricking Bachelorette! Argh!

No lawsuits from Neil Young, yet, but I did notice an abundant number of referral hits from riaa.com (not the RIAA, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere). Thanks for those of you who left me comments on the song. I have the bestest friends in the universe.

Be back Friday.

Back when I flew for the R.A.F.

Monday is the day that five million WWII archive photos go online.

That’ll give you something to look at until I get back from my bidness trip.

Later gators.

It’s Been 20 Years

Be gentle.

Here’s hoping Neil Young doesn’t sue me…

And could you do the right-click save thing, please? I owe you one.

For Linkmeister

Whiny has to get a different shirt for his steel drum band.

The reason: “You’re just not Hawaiian enough, mister!”

Just how high is that cliff anyway?

Just great.

Now Kat has me marking the movies I’ve seen part of (with a “+” for those playing the home version of the game) and Michele has me doing the Bottom 100. (And, yes, I think if you saw it on MST3K, it still counts.)

It’s madness! Madness!*

If I fricking wind up putting a quote from each movie now, I’m blaming you. Just because.

If your friends jumped off a cliff…

But mom… All the cool kids are doing it!

UPDATE: Brain Guy added pound signs(#) to his least faves, and Speaker underlined the ones he owns. So, now I have to fricking rate each one from 1-to-5 asterisks. Bastids.

New version of MT to fight spam

Can you still see me? Upgraded to Movable Type 2.661, so I’m just checking.

I don’t know how this will affect anything, by they’ve put out this release to combat comment spam. It includes a setting that makes it where comments from the same IP address can only be posted every few seconds and put in logic to automatically ban an IP address that posts comments from the same address in a short period of time. So, basically, no more comment wars from Speaker and Brian! Ha!

For you early adopters, they’ve released a 2.661 update.

Miracle

Just got back from a free preview of Miracle, the story of the 1980 Olympic hockey team.

While I didn’t think the movie was too bad, the first 3/4 of it was more of a TV dramatization than anything else. Nothing spectacular, but it did a good job setting up the highlight of the film: the game against the Soviets.

They basically choreographed and filmed the whole thing in concert with Al Michael’s original call of the game. It really should explain the magic of that event to those too young to remember it.

That of course would not include me. I remember that game like it was yesterday. The Russians in their red uniforms, always in control, making incredible passes. The scrappy Americans, grinding out every diving save, every board-pounding hit. And Jim Craig’s amazing goal tending. Shot after shot after shot blocked. I’m going to watch out for a re-play of the game on ESPN Classic when this film is released!

Hot Recording Tip

Here’s one for all you budding recording engineers out there.

Don’t get all excited about your new multitrack recorder and tell your teenage son how great it would be for him to learn how to use it and record his own stuff, unless you want to come home from work and find that the song you’ve been recording and mixing until 3am has been replaced by something like this.

He met me at the door with that goofy grin that says, “Look what I did!” But all I did was rant and rave like a maniac. That was so not cool. I felt horrible afterwards and still do. I remember my dad doing the same damn thing to me when I messed with his recording stuff. Stabbed myself in the heart, I did.

So, anyway, the song I was planning on putting up here tonight will have to wait a while. It sucked anyway, so I’ll just take this as a lesson in how to use the machine (and in making regular backups).

And, hey, THIS has got a nice beat and you can dance to it…
