There’s only one thing I can say about those annoying Dane Cook baseball promos on TBS during the playoffs: At least it’s not Fox.
I think I’m going to faint.
According to Outpost Gallifrey, there’s a new video on demand channel dedicated to science fiction (not stupid SciFi Channel crap), and it’s going to start showing classic Doctor Who next year.
A new Video On Demand Channel dedicated to science fiction and fantasy, Illusion On-Demand, has launched in North America. Currently available in twenty states and is free to all digital subscribers. Illusion has announced that the Classic Doctor Who series is slated to be on the channel starting in January 2008. November sees the updated release of The Quatermass Experiment starring Mark Gatiss and David Tennant.
It’s already offering a different “creature feature” from Troma each month, a bunch of anime, documentary features on people like Stan Lee, Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, and a buttload of video online.
In fact, I think I will faint.
The only thing that ruins it is that it’s not carried by my cable provider. Hmm. Perhaps it’s time for Dish Network…
Must. Call. Brighthouse. Now.
I’m going on a business trip to the City of Brotherly Love starting tomorrow and staying through the weekend.
What perfect timing. I’m heading into Philadelphia just in time for some little sporting event or other. Can’t quite put my finger on what it was they won, but it doesn’t really matter, because it’s Red Sox playoff time, baybeeeeee!
This would be great if my brother still lived there, but he just moved back to Florida. So, hopefully, I can dig up this guy and this gal and maybe this chick and her boy toy. Meanwhile, Mac has ducked me for a third time, so she can just go row a boat or something as far as I’m concerned. Hmph!
Well, if nothing else, I can sit in the hotel and watch the playoffs and revel in the Mets crash landing. Bitter about ’86? Not me!
Speaking of boobs, it’s time to go give money to the Boobie-Thon to help Susan G. Komen fight breast cancer. (I started to say something about being in the presence of the pair that started it all during this trip, but you can’t say things like that without sounding pervy. So, I didn’t. You’re welcome.)
Ah, but I pity you little people. You don’t have magnificent resources, as I, to go flitting from theme park to theme park every weekend. Oh, how dreadful. Sniff, sniff, and all that rot. Pip. Pip. Cheerio.
Actually, we had a free ticket and some half-price ones that just magically showed up in the mail a while ago, and we had to use them before September 30. So, we went to Universal Studios yesterday. It’s almost 90 freaking dollars per person per day otherwise! Holy crap! No wonder I never went before.
It was a lot cooler than I expected it to be. Despite the torrential downpour every 10 minutes, we wandered around both the original Universal and Islands of Adventure. Together, we went and saw Shrek 4-D, Revenge of the Mummy and Men in Black. All of which were excellent–especially the Mummy! I haven’t been on a rollercoaster with fire before. Also, instead of a leisurely climb to the top, it shoots you up at high speed and includes a few backwards drops. After that, the kids took off and rode the coasters and water rides while we strolled through the Islands areas. While we were in mid-stroll, I passed Dee Snider doing the same thing with (I assume) his kids. Then, we all got back together for dinner at Hard Rock Cafe.
I would’t say that I like Universal better than Disney, but I can’t wait until they open the new Harry Potter section…. assuming I get more free tickets.
Go and see the newly liberated Bob.
This is Bob.
Bob is a four-month-old Italian Greyhound. Bob has spent half his life in a glass box in a pet store. Bob
Ah, what a weekend. We went on our first family trip since 2004. It was short–just 3 days–and we didn’t go far, but it was fun.
We started off Friday by walking around Ybor City before dining at the Columbia Restaurant. Now, that was some yummy food stuffs. Later that evening, we wandered around looking for a movie theater. Yes, I know there’s one right there in Ybor City…but… well, it’s complicated and involves Ohio and a wormhole. You wouldn’t understand. Trust me. I don’t understand it myself.
We spent the day Saturday at Busch Gardens. I hadn’t been there in at least 5 years, I think, so that was fun. They added SheiKra since last time, and that was my one rollercoaster trip for the day (though I wish I had gone on Montu…maybe not 5 times like the kids…)
I thought SheiKra was a little short, though there are a couple of stomach-churning 90-degree, 200-foot drops in it, plus an Immelmann, so it kinda makes up for it. Plus, we went on a rainy-ish day in late September, which is apparently the greatest, because there were no lines anywhere.
Yesterday, we went to see the Red Sox play the Devil Rays. Despite the Sox loss, it was a fun game. Tropicana Field is not my favorite, as I still find it a little un-American to play baseball on carpet and under an air-conditioned dome. However, considering we were in Florida, and I’m old and spoiled, having a roof over our heads was pretty sweet. It didn’t hurt that we had really nice seats near the left field foul pole about 6 rows back.
Apparently, there’s a list of 25 things every man should know. I got this from Les, who is only 80% manly according to the list, but he’s got one, mean beard, so I’ll give him a pass.
Let’s see if my image as a useless fop matches up with reality, shall we?
By my reckoning, I’m 100% manly! Don’t agree? Let’s fight about it!
For some reason, I thought there was more time before this happened!!!
Welcome to the world, Mighty Baby!
According to a BBC press release, there will be a Series Five of Doctor Who (yay!), but it won’t be until 2010 (boo!). David Tennant is going to play Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company next summer (yay!). So, he won’t be available to film the series for 2009 (boo!). However, rather than just find someone else for the role, they’re going to film three Doctor Who specials (yay!) and come back with Series Five in 2010 (yay!). At an award ceremony where David Tennant won Best Actor, he said that he did not know if he would play Doctor Who in the next full series, because “it’s in 2010”.
For you confused ‘murricans, we’re currently watching Series Three on SciFi and re-runs of Series One with Christopher Eccleston on PBS and Series Two on BBC America.
Meanwhile, the series won the Hugo Award for “Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form” for the Series Two episode The Girl in the Fireplace by Steven Moffat, which is one of my favorites from last season. The Empty Child, another Moffat scripted episode, won the award last year, too.
Also, this coming Saturday, BBC America is going to start showing the Who spinoff show Torchwood, which is supposed to be a lot less for kids and a bit more like X-Files. I just know that it stars Captain Jack (John Barrowman) who was one of the best Who sidekicks ever.
