Masters of Karaoke?

OK, so now I know what I’m not supposed to sing…

I spent the better part of the weekend working on a cover of the Psychedelic Furs “The Ghost in You.” The music came out pretty good, but the vocals suck. It’s like bad karaoke.

Meanwhile, I saw a post over at Scott’s about a high school band getting into trouble for trying to sing Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War” at a talent contest and thought, “Oh, what the hell.” Took me like 20 minutes, and excuse me for saying so, but it fricking rocks!

Right click and save, por favor.

Lawyer Man smash puny humans!

Marvel has just Disney-fied itself by suing the makers of City of Heroes because it allows players to create characters that look like trademarked Marvel heroes. Not only are they trying to cripple City of Heroes so that you’ll be forced to play in the new Marvel MMORPG (where I’m sure you won’t be able to be any trademarked characters), but they’re also setting themselves up for anyone who creates a unique character in CoH to sue any future Marvel creation that happens to look like something some kid in Boise made up one night!

Their next move will be to sue themselves for allowing people to see copyrighted characters. A spokesperson said, “If we allow this, then the public might start to imagine what the Incredible Hulk looks like without pants.” He was immediately sued by Marvel for using the term “Incredible Hulk” without permission and arrested by the FCC for having a dirty mind.

A country without a memory is a country of madmen

Oh, man! I really, really wanted to write about the similarities between this election and the one in 1800 (seriously), but someone beat me to it.

I’m not saying that I suddenly agree with the Republicans and everything’s gonna be just peachy. Far from it. However, it would do everyone well to keep things in perspective when they are making their cases for or agin’ a particular policy. The sky might be falling, but we’ve been hit on the head before and survived with just a little dain bramage.

I really just linked to the article so I could quote this cool poem:

The election is over, let hard feelings pass
I’ll hug your elephant, and you can kiss my…

Football: Week 10

Last week’s sorry spectacle was so horrific and upsetting that I completely forgot to post my week 9 football picks. And the election sucked, too! *badump-bump*

5-9. My first losing week. Good thing I don’t give a rat’s posterior, eh?

For the record, the only ones I got right were Arizona, San Diego, Seattle, New England and Baltimore.

Just one more for old times sake

Remember the scene in Star Trek II where the dying Khan says, “From hell’s heart, I stab at thee. For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee.” before he pushes the button to blow every thing up? I don’t know why that just popped into my head

Ashcroft’s final act as Attorney General was to launch Ashcroft v. Oregon, whereby the Federal government — which is currently controlled by the party of “states rights uber alles” — hopes to overturn the state of Oregon’s right to determine for itself whether assisted suicide is legal.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month…

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Today is Veteran’s Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day around the world.

Take a moment to remember that war is not a video game or a movie. Real people fought and died for our rights. It is our duty to make sure that we honor their sacrifices by cherishing the gifts they earned for us, instead of frittering them away out of fear and ignorance or using them as excuses to tear each other down.

No, we’re not old! Shaddap!

Uh, for those asking… we had him when we were, um… 12! Yeah, that’s the ticket! Me and my wife… Morgan Fairchild… whom I’ve seen naked…

Prayer Request

Crap. I forgot that I was going to ask you for something before you received the subliminal message to join my zombie army listened to the previous tune!

Um, while you still have your free will, can I ask you to whip up some prayers and/or secular good wishes for my baby brother? He is in a hospital in Philadelphia with a mystery illness. Thank ye.

You may now resume your unexplainable urge to worship me. Heh heh heh.
