Watchmen mania

I’m so freaking excited about the new Watchmen movie!

Here are a couple of sites that show fade-in comparisons of the movie posters and the originals from 1986.

With a bullet!

I’ve seen sites like this before (maybe even this one), but it’s fun to look up the #1 song on this date in history – especially when you can choose the date. Plus, this will take you to a clip of the song when you click on them (assuming you actually want to hear it).

My birthday: “I Can’t Stop Loving You” by Ray Charles
My wife’s birthday: “Chapel of Love” by The Dixie Cups
My graduation: “Funkytown” by Lipps, Inc.
Our wedding: “Live to Tell” by Madonna
Whiny the Elder’s birthday: “Amanda” by Boston
Pepperkat’s birthday: “Blame It on the Rain” by Milli Vanilli

Star Trek Online

As much as I have grown to dislike just about anything Trek related these days, I still have always wondered why there wasn’t an MMO to take advantage of the instant immersion into a universe that a Star Trek framework would bring.

I started looking for any game that would present the same sorts of things I expect in a Star Trek online game–a vast universe to explore with both in-ship and with “away team” missions–and couldn’t find it. Eve Online had the ship combat thing down, but you’re stuck on board your ship. And even that felt claustrophobic, as you’re basically a solo pilot, not the captain of a 400-person crew…or even a lowly ensign.

Finally, after years of waiting Cryptic Studios (the makers of City of Heroes) have released the first demos of Star Trek Online…and it looks awesome!

Them orcs ain’t killin’ themselves, girl!

ME (asking my daughter why we were packing up a van full of crap for her yard sale at 9am on Saturday): You done missed the prime early birds, girl.

HER: Look, I carted all this junk out to include in the yard sale by myself, because someone was too busy with his little online friends.

ME: Hey, I was doing work for the Lord!

HER: Yeah, right. The Lord of the Rings!

ME: Exactly. 🙂

Three in a row!

Steven Moffat, the future big cheese for Doctor Who, won his third Hugo Award in a row. His story, Blink (one of the quirkiest and creepiest episodes last season), won for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.

Moffat won last year for The Girl in the Fireplace and the year before that for the 2-parter The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances.

And just look at those ears!

Quick! Guess which tabloid ran this story… “Obama: Too Fit to Be President?”

The National Enquirer? The Star? USA Today? The Onion???

Try the Wall Street Journal. Oy. Vey.

While I’m not thrilled with every position Barack Obama has taken in his campaign for President, the fact that he doesn’t look like my fat ass is actually a good thing. You know your campaign is scraping the bottom of the barrel when you’ve got to resort to “he’s too popular to be President” as a tactic.

One of us? Yeah, we tried that already, thanks. I don’t think I can take 4 more years of it.

What’re we expectin’ to find here that equals the worth of a turd?

After much dragging of feet, we finally watched Serenity this weekend. It was on our Blockbuster list, but we had been kinda iffy about whether it would be any good. I mean, it was canceled before the first season was done. So, maybe it sucked. And, besides, wouldn’t we be lost as to who was who and what was what?

After watching it, all I can say is:

Why the hell didn’t anyone tell me about this awesome show??

Bluegrass with Mustard

For those of you not yet initiated into the Church of the Nifty Blue Chrysler, I am sorry. However, there is a cure for such depravity, and it’s called The Bluegrass with Mustard Show.

I’ve been listening to Pastor Mustard’s warped weekly podcast for months, and it hasn’t hurt me none!

Enough with the damned Piccaninnies!

Holy Snapping Duck Do! I just returned from my daily swim on the beautiful Fijian beach and realised I have not updated this since long before Shakespeare wast a boy… You would not believe that my hands were chopped off and I was waiting for bionic ones. Apologies to my regular readers! Even the little blue ones!

I am lost in a sea of pseudo-olde-english with keeping up with my favourite daytime soaps, choosing my retirement village, just generally being a biatch to anyone unfortunate to cross my path, my day is a magical flight from the second I am woken by murderous Teletubbies to I run out of alcohol. I am plotting and planning. I need a nap.

I swear on the bones of my ancestors to send a missive out on the wire, post-haste. Until I need your shoulder to cry on. The Piccaninnies say I have to!

This post brought to you by The Lazy Bloggers Post Generator and blithe (herself a Piccaninny of the ninniest sort). Now, if only this sounded like something I wouldn’t have written sans LBPG aid…
