Is anything more better than riding to work with your daughter on a sunny morning blasting Ramones tunes?

No, there is not. So, shut up.

Say hello to my little friend…

Lord, protect us. The mighty Geekman is breeding a new race of super geeks. Or at least one more.

Blogging! What a concept!

When last we left our hero, he was returning home from a bidness trip. Exhausted, he lay down to sleep for a thousand years. When he awoke, he found the Earth ruled by paranoid apes. He was comforted by the thought that nothing had changed during his absence.

Update time. Sleep is good. But you knew that. Let’s see…what else has been happening…

We attended an awards ceremony for Pepperkat this weekend where she got the Girl Scout Gold Award. It grates on my feminist sensibilities to have to compare it to the Eagle Scout for boys, but there’s a serious lack of PR surrounding the girls’ highest achievement. Heck, even in their own program, the Girl Scouts felt they had to put “it’s like an Eagle Scout” for people to understand the significance. Anyway, we couldn’t be prouder of our little cookie dealer.

What else? Hmm…

Heroes still rocks the sockses of all the foxes. Spider-Man 3…meh, not so much. It wasn’t bad. There was just too much emo and not enough Venom. Topher Grace was great as Eddie Brock, though. And there were some pretty funny moments. Bruce Campbell is still my hero. Bring on Shrek 3!

Um, that’s about it. Not much happening for having a thousand year nap, eh?

Two blokes and a f*ck load of cutlery!

Sitting in the Nashville airport. Totally exhausted.

It was a full (did I mention exhausting?) week of meetings and seminars and classes and standing for hours in a booth. This is pretty much the first time I have had more than a quick 5 minutes to check e-mail since last Friday morning. I was only able to phone home once. And I missed HEROES!

It wasn’t all bad, though. On Sunday night, I hooked up with Busy Mom, and we went to see Hot Fuzz. It was heeelarious. Almost as good as Shaun of the Dead. I can’t wait to see it again with my family.

That’s about all the battery I have left for today. And my laptop’s running out of juice, too.

If I never see purple again, it will be too soon.

You haven’t lived until you’ve turned up at your hotel and found it overrun with 5,000 ladies in red hats.

I’m just sayin’…

You’d think that after 5 years of this crap, I’d be able to think of better post titles.

Ack! Until I was reminded by Mac’s 5th blogging anniversary, I totally forgot mine was on March 1st!

Thanks, bronchitis. Thanks a lot.

Now, where’s my presents?

Thus goeth the holier-than-thou foot in thy mouth

Ever since I posted this about the Mike Daisey protest, I have been scolding myself in my own head for piling on the bandwagon.

Shouldn’t I have just refrained from creating more anti-Christian sentiment?

Shouldn’t I have just used their bad example as a personal lesson and not trumpeted my own wonderfulness at not being like them?

Well, of course, I should have. For, you see, it turns out that these awful representatives of the Christian religion were, in fact, just plain old awful representatives of regular humanity.

John Hodgman has issued a clarification and an apology. To it, I add my own.

Oh, cheese and crackers!

In case you have not seen it (and by the ratings, most of you haven’t), Andy Barker, PI is one of the funniest shows on TV.

Well, it was.

After only 5 episodes, the morons at NBC have canceled it. Instead, we’ll get more stupid “Deal or No Deal” or “America’s Funniest Home Invasions” (wait, that’s Fox).

The premise of the show is that CPA Andy Barker (Andy Richter) moves into a new office in a strip mall above a video store. No sooner does he settle in than he is approached by a sexy siren out of a Sam Spade movie to solve a crime. Turns out that his new office was the old office of private eye, Lew Staziak (Harve Presnell). Reluctantly, Andy gets involved in solving the case, finds out he likes this dual life, and away we go.

The series spoofs the classic detective shows with the kind of mash-up of wit and silliness for which Conan O’Brien (the producer) is known. The episodes have titles like “Fairway, My Lovely” (a case involving a murdered golf instructor), “Three Days of the Chicken” (about a murderous poultry conglomerate), “Dial M for Laptop”, “The Big No Sleep” and “The Lady Varnishes”.

But even better than the usual gumshoe jokes is the supporting cast. Presnell is hilarious as the over-the-top, sorta-retired detective who tries to mentor Andy. Andy’s too-perfect wife is played by Clea Lewis. And the strip mall where he moves in contains characters like the video store owner, Simon (Tony Hale, “Buster” on Arrested Development…another brilliant show that didn’t click with many folks), and the overly patriotic immigrant owner of an Afghani restaurant, Wally (Marshall Manesh). The final episode (which was originally a web exclusive) guest-starred Ed Asner as Lew’s crooked ex-partner and Amy Sedaris as his one-legged former flame.

I mean, right there, isn’t that last sentence enough? What more do you want from a TV show???

Go watch all the episodes online before they disappear.

Ba-doooom!

People (including me) always seem to remember witnessing history-making sports events whether they really did or not. Well, this is my official proclamation that I was watching when the Red Sox hit 4 HR in a row for the first time in team history…and only the 5th time in Major League history. It was the first time in the AL since just before I turned 2 years old.

(To be fair and accurate, I missed Manny’s and Drew’s. So, technically, I only saw half of the feat. I hope that doesn’t disqualify me from anything.)
