Stay Put, Willya?

Jason’s moved again. Something about his last domain name turned people off (literally). So, as you should already know if you have him on your blogroll, he’s at V i s i b i l i t y Z e r o now.

Carnival of the Vanities #8

Carnival of the Vanities #8 is up!

It’s that time of the week again. Time for Evil Plan 316A, wherein I worm my way onto the same list with 27 really good writers. Mwahahahaha.

Late Veterans Day Gift

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier today. It makes a great story for Veterans Day.

Stacey, a 33-year-old West Coast firefighter/paramedic, had an epiphany on a trip to Vietnam. She found a ton of old U.S. Army left-behinds (glasses, boots, cateens, medals, etc.) being sold in the countryside. One day it hit her: Why not try and return the old dog tags she found to the soldiers?

So, she set up a database, called VietnamDogTags.com, with the names of all the tags she’s found. Each one that has not been matched with an owner has a form to fill out, so someone can apply to claim it.

None of them are for sale, and she refuses to turn them over to the Defense Department to get lost in the bureaucratic maze.

Go check out the story at The Story Behind the Tags.

[ I salute the ever-vigilant Dragonleg for this. ]

Thank You Veterans

Hug a sailor!

That was for Cableman. Hee. Couldn’t find a “Hug a grumpy old Air Force guy” for Grump…

Thanks to all veterans. My dad was a veteran of the Korean War. My father-in-law was in the South Pacific in World War II. One of my cousins (also named Lester) was killed in Vietnam. I appreciate how much men and women sacrifice every day so that I can spew my inane garbage out to you all. You should too.

Happy Birthday, Boy!

Everybody needs to wish my oldest offspring a happy 16th birthday. Yes, everyone who still remembers the know-it-all toddler and ex-advertising model, Whiny the Elder, should probably not be looking at this stuff. It will make you feel really old, really fast.

For the rest of you, though, weren’t he just the cutest thang? Yes, ladies, he still has that red hair. (I am so dead.)

Click on thumbnails for the full experience.

Newborn Whiny...so tiny... First advert shot Awww I am the coolest. Superstar, well alright you are.

Best. Mom. Ever.

What should a respectable mom get her 16-year-old for his birthday tomorrow? Well, in Whiny’s case, how about the Best of Beavis and Butthead 3-DVD set?

She wrapped it like a book and told him she got him a new Bible. Hee.

Of course, it makes it kinda hard to work on the novel with the three of them in there cackling without me…

Debauchery With A Heart

It probably wouldn’t occur to most people to take a simple whine from Statia about not being able to make it to Florida for Thanksgiving/Robyn’s 30th birthday and turn it into a wet t-shirt contest for a plane ticket. Leave it to Robyn to turn the wet t-shirt contest into a full-blown campaign for breast cancer research. These people are the greatest. Outta control, but the greatest.

Go HERE and give generously.

Technical Notes:
My co-workers should not click these links in public.
My kids shouldn’t click them at all.
Ric the Schmuck and Dragonleg are limited to 10 minutes ogling, each. (And then only if they give up the cash.)

Give to Breast Cancer Research

Update: This link explains stuff better than I can. Plus, they’re up over $800! (Don’t read the Fark comments, though, unless you have a high tolerance for stupidity.)
