Who the hell are you?

Hey, while I’m in a blogging lull, why don’t you people sign my Guestmap and/or Guestbook? I only know half of you as well as I’d like, and I like half of you as well as you know . . . or something like that . . .

Evil Overlord 101

Listen up, you evil masters of destruction. You can’t run a proper crew of minions without training. If you want to join the army of darkness, you can’t just start pushing over grannies or stealing lunch money from nerds. Being an evil genius requires forethought and training…(“I didn’t spend six years at evil medical school to be called ‘Mr. Evil’ thank-you-very-much!”).

A Step-by-Step Guide to joining the forces of darkness is required reading for any serious world-conqueror. There you will learn how to thwart the forces of good, pick out a potential career, determine a location for your evil lair, while getting fashion tips and help in selecting just the right evil laugh.

OK, so you’ve studied hard, you’re on the calendar, you’re a big-time baddie. Now what? What to do with all that power? Fear not! Skip (do not prance…overlords don’t prance) over to Peter’s Evil Overlord List for tons of ideas on how to expend your negative energy.

In existence since 1996, this list holds the keys to true evildom. For example, take these bits o’ wickedly warped wisdom:

“Shooting is not too good for my enemies.”

“When I’ve captured my adversary and he says, ‘Look, before you kill me, will you at least tell me what this is all about?’ I’ll say, ‘No.’ and shoot him. No, on second thought I’ll shoot him then say ‘No.'”

“One of my advisors will be an average five-year-old child. Any flaws in my plan that he is able to spot will be corrected before implementation.”

Unfortunately, I have already violated rules 18 and 19:

“18. I will not have a son. Although his laughably under-planned attempt to usurp power would easily fail, it would provide a fatal distraction at a crucial point in time.”

“19. I will not have a daughter. She would be as beautiful as she was evil, but one look at the hero’s rugged countenance and she’d betray her own father.”

Brought to you by the same evil genius behind Peter Anspach’s Star Trek Parodies.

MOHAA Spearhead Expansion Pack

Dispatch from the front. Sgt. Grump reports the following:

The MOHAA add-on is supposed to be in the stores tomorrow (18th). But if you want a preview of it, try this: http://www.ea.com/eagames/official/moh_alliedassault/editorial.jsp?page=latestnews

Be sure to download both the demo AND the “server patch”.

The demo includes:

Map- Malta – Machine guns and MORTARS! Large, complex map. Kind of a mix of Algiers (winding streets), Destroyed Village (rubble), and “Doomed City” (medieval city- if you remember that user-created map we played a couple times), and Crossroads (has a bridge).

Map- Druckkammen. A German U-Boat base. Think of this as a larger “V-2 Rocket Factory”. Ugh!

Weapons- Note #1: To use the specific American/British/Russian weapons, you have to be wearing the appropriate uniform. Note #2: Except for weapons that require the secondary fire key (sniper rifles, grenade launcher), you can now use weapons other than pistols to beat your opponent!

Gameplay- Built-in Realism; Built-in Voting. Easier to set up map rotations. New type of game: “Tug of War”.

Top 10 Movies

In addition to the Top 10 Authors and Top 10 Recording Artists, we come to my 10 favorite movies. One more time, for those following along at home, these are the first ones that popped into my head. Please, if you argue with me, I’ll probably say, “Yeah, I guess you’re right” or “Ooh, how could I have forgotten that one?”

Top 10 Favorite Movies
1. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2. [spot reserved for LOTR: Two Towers]
3. [spot reserved for LOTR: Return of the King]

OK, that’s not fair. Those are all tied for first place as one movie. Let’s move on.

2. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
4. Young Frankenstein
5. Blazing Saddles
6. Star Wars (Episode IV) – the real one
7. Airplane
8. The Wizard of Oz
9. Rear Window
10. Ghostbusters

Argh! Again, 10 is not enough. Where’s Duck Soup and Dr. Strangelove and Bridge on the River Kwai and on and on and on. Oh well.

Top 10 Recording Artists

List number two in my bid to remain a Blogcritic in mediocre (if not good) standing. See Top 10 Authors for the first. Again, remember, these are off-the-cuff, so I probably forgot someone . . . but then how could they be a favorite? Hmm. I’m getting all psychological and stuff.

Top 10 Favorite Recording Artists
1. The Beatles
2. The Ramones
3. Bob Dylan
4. The Rolling Stones
5. The Who
6. The Kinks
7. Johnny Cash
8. Led Zeppelin
9. Elvis Presley
10. Bill Monroe

Dang! Ten’s not enough. There’s Elvis Costello and R.E.M. (older stuff) and The Clash and Springsteen and the Sex Pistols and Merle Haggard and Buck Owens and on and on and on. Oh well…maybe a Top 100 sometime.

In an effort to pigeonhole me, Mr. Olsen has asked me (ME!) to tell you what my favorite this’s and that’s are. Well, he picked the wrong month for that, as I am wasting every spare moment bouncing between NaNoWriMo and Thanksgiving Day preparations.

However, I am nothing if not cooperative, so rather than spend my energy doing exhaustive research, I am presenting some off-the-cuff lists. Actually, come to think of it, these might be more insightful than if I spent hours and hours researching what my tastes are supposed to look like–fiddling with things like “Do I put Asimov at number 2 or 3?” and “How many Beatle albums can I fill up the Top 10 with anyway?” At least, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Hell, I’m not even gonna give you reasons WHY I like who I like. So there!

Top 10 Favorite Authors
1. Douglas Adams
2. Isaac Asimov
3. J.R.R. Tolkein
4. Dr. Seuss
5. Mark Twain
6. Terry Pratchett
7. Katherine Kurtz
8. Ray Bradbury
9. Stephen King
10. Larry Niven

Yes, Yes, I Am

“God will not suffer man to have the knowledge of things to come; for if he had prescience
of his prosperity he would be careless; and understanding of his adversity he would be senseless.”

You are Augustine!
You love to study tough issues and don’t mind it if you lose sleep over them.
Everyone loves you and wants to talk to you and hear your views, you even get things like “nice debating
with you.” Yep, you are super smart, even if you are still trying to figure it all out. You’re also
very honest, something people admire, even when you do stupid things.

What theologian are you?

A creation of Henderson

Update: My wife’s comment was “oy vey…” Hee.
Ignoring the theological implications of a former Congregationalist who’s currently a Presbyterian that sings in a Seventh Day Adventist choir using a Yiddish exclamation, I just had to find out if it’s “oy” or “oi”…. (even I marvel at my own ability to get distracted). Anyway, I found a plausible explanation HERE, if you scroll down a bit.
