Clown Car of the Vanities

Another week, another Carnival of the Vanities. Only this time, the ringmaster is Laurence Simon of Amish Tech Support. See, our regular guy is off having fun and stuff…while the rest of us slave away…

It’s a crime, but whaddya do? Start your own Carnival? And put up with all this crap? Ha! As if.

Calling All Monkeys

I just finished an interview with the Orlando Sentinel for an article on Central Florida bloggers. What is disturbing me is that I was asked what the hell this blog is about.

Can anyone tell me, please? Do I really want to know?

I’m not a professional writer. I don’t want to mix it up too much with the warblog crowd. I’m not selling anything. I’m not recovering from anything. I had a perfectly happy childhood, and have a beautiful wife and great kids.

I don’t have a point.

I do like Flablog’s distinctions of warblog, popblog, lifeblog and omniblog. I’m an omniblog. But that just reinforces it.

The other thing that’s troubling me is the creeping crud of politics that’s sneaking in here. Stop it! Stop it, now!

Please, someone send me more monkey dung to spread about the blogiverse.

When Bloggers Attack

Time for the Idiotarian to weigh in on this Little Green Footballs thing.

I am not always (ever?) a huge fan of what Charles Johnson has to say. And I’m not as outraged as Amish Tech Support and others are over this, but I will say this: I agree wholeheartedly with the backlash against MSNBC for the way they handled LGF. Either they picked LGF to be a Best Blog or (their fallback position) “don’t blame us, you voted for it.” Either way, for them to resort to Fox-style “When Animals Attack” promos like “Is this news or hate?” to fan the criticism is completely unfair. People have a right to read LGF and make up their own minds without being egged on by the media.

Climb That Rope, Now!

Kat is a good mom…especially if you’re a kid who’s about to get an F for not wearing the proper P.E. uniform. Sheesh!

Don’t tell my kids, but I think that P.E. is the single biggest waste of tax dollars in the universe. When I was in fifth grade, the moron P.E. teacher threatened to fail me and hold me back a year for not participating. Umm…moron, I was in the hospital! My other teachers brought me my homework, and I kept up and passed with flying colors. Yet, this dildo was going to flunk me…until my dad had a “discussion” with him and his boss. It weren’t purty.

Go get ’em, Kat.

Ah!! My Eyes!

Sorry for anyone that’s tried to view my site for the the past little while. I’ve been messing with the fonts and positioning to try to make sure the whole mess looks reasonably good no matter what text size or resolution you choose. I think I finally got it. Let me know if it looks funky on your screen (boy, does THAT open me up for it…)

UPDATE: One thing that bugs me is a problem with the “Show Me More!” expandable post thingy. If I use it, and there is a link within the extended text, and someone clicks the link, when they return, the browser returns to the exact spot on the page, but the article is collapsed. This leads to much puzzled looks and frustrated readers.

I tried looking to see how other people get around this, but so far the only options I have seen are: 1. Don’t use it; 2. Don’t put links in extended text; 3. Open a new browser window for all links. I don’t like any of those answers.

If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please let me know! Danke.

Update Update: I took away the expanding entries toy, until such time as some MT mage figures out the above issue.

Waiting For Frodo

O.K. I realize that I’m a bit flippy for LOTR myself, but I don’t see myself standing in line for five months…three maybe…

Anyway, I was looking around for Florida bloggers to add to my Floridians blogroll this afternoon. I used Globe of Blogs to search. After Florida, I checked in on Maine (only 4). Then, I got the bright idea to check for people my own age (physically, not mentally). Curiously, while there are several males born in 1962 on GOB, there is only one female–Debbie Ridpath Ohi of Blatherings.

Toys! Toys! Toys!

I just finished adding more crap to the blog. I scoured scriptygoddess, Kalsey Consulting Group and Brad Choate’s place, looking for as many neat toys as I could. Then, I implemented all the ones I liked…and I liked a lot…

For example, notice the date? It now says the day of the week (or ‘Today’ or ‘Yesterday’). There’s a whole new Recent Comments section, and I disinfected my unsafe HTML-allowed comments, too, with Brad’s sanitize plugin. I implemented Kalsey’s comment notification hack, so I don’t get e-mails telling me I just commented, too.

At the same time, I spent a lot of time updating and reorganizing my blogrolls. I moved some around–to and from Daily Reads, added a whole new section for Florida bloggers, and put a reciproll on the sidebar of the Blogfaves page.

And, in case ya didn’t notice, I moved all my pages from SSI to PHP.

Now, I just have to wait until next year, so I can use that nifty “On This Date” plugin.
