Britney Spears

Kamel inspired me to turn from the dark side of politics and general left-right snarkiness to the serious business of luring poor suckers searching for pictures of Britney Spears, Britney Spears lyrics, Britney Spears video clips, Britney Spears fansite, or Britney Spears breasts to my site. (Of course, I have no doubt that once a Britney Spears fan is here she’ll love to stay and read all this crap.)

Don’t blame me! I saw it at Floating Monkeys first! And if one blogger jumps off a bridge, I suppose I have to…though he is 20 years younger than me, he’s one of my Blog Parents, ya know.

Thinking = Inaction

Well, I opened my big mouth in the comments at N.Z. Bear’s house. He laid out a pretty good set of stock answers that Iraqi war opponents might use, but I couldn’t quite get past the fifth one. It basically says, “Let’s stop and think about this first.” And this is supposed to be a BAD thing? Join in the fun at: The Truth Laid Bear: The Inactivists Guide.

Lighten Up! It’s a Joke!

Um…laugh everyone? Ha ha? No? Guess not.

I can kinda understand the pressures young men of Arab descent might be under in this post-9/11 fear factory. I might even be able to picture them sitting in a restaurant next to a busybody white lady, saying “Hey, let’s get a rise outta this broad. (louder) DID YOU BRING DE BOMB, ACHMED? IS EET EEN DE CAR?” But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that crying “Fire!” in a crowded movie theater (or “Bomb!” on a loaded airplane) is A REALLY DUMB THING TO DO.

Apparently, it takes someone smarter than a medical student, however: The Miami Herald | 09/13/2002 | Feds: Three suspects played stupid joke.

Mr. Bad Example

In my most recent trip to Borders to sneak a listen to new music, I was overjoyed to see Warren Zevon’s My Ride’s Here still sitting up there. The record came out in May, but as usual with our homogenized Clear Channel radio system, I hadn’t heard anything from it. So, I took a listen.

Safely Home

Well, I made it there and back again. No incidents. No frustrations (at the site or in travel). The airports in Orlando and Norfolk were eerily quiet Wednesday. There were only 15 people on my flight. Kinda good to escape the 9-11 media overload.

The only 9-11 stuff I saw was CNN Airport News, as they showed the reading of the names of the victims. But even that was annoying, since, as the families read the names, I heard:

ANCHOR 1: “Yes, I think they are actually reading what sound like names now…”
ANCHOR 2: “Mmm, yes, definitely…at least they sound like names to me. Remember, there were a lot of victims of this tragedy…perhaps as many as 3000.”
ANCHOR 1: “That’s right, Dianne, and…oh, wait, they’re switching readers…that’s interesting…”

I am afraid, however, that when I yelled, “SHUT UP!” the other passengers at the gate thought I was talking about the reading of the names, instead of the idiot anchors….sigh…

Blog Reflections on 9-11

Michele has been pouring her heart out over the anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Now, she’s turning her blog over to everyone else.

I have said all I need to say. And, since I won’t be here tomorrow, I suggest you go to a small victory: it’s your turn and read the thoughts of other writers and commenters in blogland.

XP Workaround

If for whatever reason you cannot (or will not) install SP1, The Screen Savers has a workaround for the XP issue. Scroll down to the Boot Camp section to read it, or simply delete the “uplddrvinfo.htm” file from your system. It is located by default in “c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\system\dfs\”.

URGENT FOR XP USERS!

If (like me) you’re too lazy to use Linux and too cheap to use Mac, and if you are using Windows XP, you must install SP1 now! This warning was given at the Gibson Research Corporation Home Page.

I have received e-mail with instructions on how to exploit this flaw in XP. I tested it. It does exactly what GRC says–deletes every file in any directory the attacker designates!
