The Tuxedo

We just got back from a free showing of the new Jackie Chan movie, The Tuxedo. Now, I must preface this with the fact that I love Jackie Chan. He’s funny and an amazing athlete (he’s almost 50 and still looks like a devilish 20-something…unless you get a real closeup). I’d be hard pressed to think of another actor that would draw me to the theater no matter what the picture might be. But I just can’t recommend this flick.

Freedom Week

In Florida, the government has declared this Freedom Week. Great. So, now I have to listen to Whiny the Elder rant about the twisted irony of being forced to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the preamble to the Constitution every day in school, while the teachers are made to divert from their normal lesson plan to teach the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, during FREEDOM WEEK. Thanks a lot, Florida. I’ll get even some day…..oh, yeah! Whiny will be old enough to drive soon….that’ll teach ya. *shudder*

Meanwhile, a fellow Leovillager has been threatened with expulsion for violating his Virginia school’s acceptable use policy. The crime: Blogging.

Schools should be encouraging kids to write more creatively and to learn how to use computers to their fullest capabilities as tools for self-expression. Go give Sam some encouragement at BEACHtechie: The Support.

Update: The actual requirement is to teach the Declaration of Independence, along with recitation of its first few lines. Apparently, Pepperkat’s school is going further, thus the Constitution’s preamble recitation (and the associated “in-school suspensions” for kids that don’t participate without a parent’s written excuse).

A Hard Day’s Night

CNN.com – Review: ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ sound makes it

Why am I more excited about the re-release of a movie from almost forty years ago than just about anything new coming out? Am I just another old geezer? (Shut up!) No, I don’t think so. This is classic comedy stuff from Richard Lester and the Beatles.

“Man on train: Don’t take that tone with me young man. I fought the war for your sort.
Ringo: I bet you’re sorry you won.”

“Reporter: How did you find America?
John: Turned left at Greenland.”

“Reporter: What do you call that haircut of yours?
George: Arthur.”

“Reporter: Are you a ‘mod’ or a ‘rocker’?
Ringo: I’m a ‘mocker’.”

And that doesn’t even count the fantastic music. This is one DVD worth paying for…oops, did I say that out loud?
