The Grey Havens Stars were just hoping for a solid outing from Surzog Kapanaktsian. Instead, they got something special.
The 25-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Ravenhill Darkwings, helping the Stars take the 2-0 win.
“I felt good throughout the game,” he said after his spectacular outing for the Stars. “As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn’t nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special.”
Kapanaktsian’s repertoire has a fastball, slider, cutter, and changeup, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Ravenhill hitters off balance all game long. The Grey Havens hurler fanned 11 and walked 3 in his history-making performance.
“His fastball looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed,” Ravenhill manager Rark the Sly joked after the game.
Kapanaktsian has fashioned a 3-8 mark for the season, 4.78 ERA and thrown 105.1 innings in 19 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .256 against him.
