Royals Prevail, as Hobbit Series Goes to the Wire

The Rivendell Royals and Erebor Eagles put on a classic Hobbit Series that was in question until the final game.

In the end, Rivendell won the deciding contest by a score of 5-3, to take the series 2-1.

“It doesn’t get much tighter than that. To win a series in the last game is a thrill,” said Columbus Marblerage, who earned series MVP honors for Rivendell. “Our guys are breathing a little easier now.”

For the series, Marblerage hit .500 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 2 runs.

The Rivendell Royals will play against the Minas Ithil Wyrms in the next round. Minas Ithil had a bye in the Hobbit Series. The Fellowship Series schedule will be announced after the Hobbit Series finishes.

Kings Even With Disaster After Home Win

The Numenor Kings knotted up the Hobbit Series at Capital One Stadium, thanks in large part to starter Robur Hardbottle. Hardbottle quieted the Dagorlad Disaster, enabling Numenor to grab the 4-0 win and move into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-3 series.

Hardbottle confounded Dagorlad hitters. Over 8 innings, he allowed no runs on 2 hits.

“My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity,” said Hardbottle.

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Dagorlad Memorial Stadium.

Rivendell Win Evens Series at 1

With right fielder Wildemar Waelvor leading the charge, the Rivendell Royals got a road win over the Erebor Eagles, 9-2, in Game 2 of the Hobbit Series. Waelvor was 1 for 2 with 3 walks. He scored 3 times at The Eyrie to help Rivendell force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-3 series.

In the top of the second, Rivendell catcher Malgath Elriden had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and two out, Elriden stroked a 2-run double to right. It made the score 2-0, Rivendell. For the game, he was 2-4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win,” Elriden told the Rivendell Daily.

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at Royals Stadium.

Pelham, Disaster Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead

The Dagorlad Disaster combined strong pitching and timely hitting to take Game 1 of the Hobbit Series, 3-1, in a walk-off win over the Numenor Kings.

The Disaster got a solid performance from starter Mimosa Pelham. The right-handed Pelham threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Disaster a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-3 series.

Dagorlad got a clutch hit from Romochka Carnicas. The shortstop launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.

Kings manager Vugnar Mithrilhammer did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference “if and when we win the Return of the King Series.”

The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 5th , 2052 at Capital One Stadium.

Eagles Top Royals, 11-5, to Begin Hobbit Series

With left fielder Zaghbub the Ugly leading the charge, the Erebor Eagles got a road win over the Rivendell Royals, 11-5, in Game 1 of the Hobbit Series. the Ugly went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 at Royals Stadium to help Erebor take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series.

Erebor used the hitting of Aloiene Galdor to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the second inning to put the Eagles on top, 6-1. For the game, Galdor had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.

“We’re one game closer to our goal,” Erebor manager Lumja Grelf said later. “It isn’t any more complicated than that.”

The next game is set to be played for Friday, October 4th , 2052 at The Eyrie.

Lucier Tops SC in BA, HRs, RBIs — Triple Crown

Belegond Lucier of Old Forest roared out of the gate and never looked back. The 25-year-old powerhouse slammed 48 home runs, had 123 RBIs, and batted a solid .338 on the year to grab the Shire Conference Triple Crown, the 12th one in SGCBL history.

“Boy, what a year!” he said. “There are plenty of talented guys down through the years who never won one … and here I am with a Triple Crown!”

September’s MC Top Pitcher is Disaster Mack

The spotlight today is on Fredegar Mack of the Dagorlad Disaster. The relief ace was chosen as the #1 pitcher in the Mordor Conference for September.

He compiled a 0-0 record and an ERA of 0.55 in 16.1 innings with 28 strikeouts. Mack nailed down 13 saves in 13 save opportunities.

This season, Mack has nailed down 47 saves. In 71.2 innings he has fanned 94 batters and walked 17. His record is 4-2 with a 1.88 ERA and the opposition is batting .186 against him.

Murdock Premier Pitcher in September

September’s elite pitcher was Joachim Murdock of Moria. He silenced Shire Conference hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts.

Murdock restricted opposing hitters to a .168 batting average. He rang up 26 strikeouts in 31 innings of work, surrendered 6 walks and crafted a 1.45 ERA.

Murdock has made 7 starts, tossed 43.2 innings, struck out 42 batters and walked 12. His record is 5-2 with a 2.06 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .164 batting average.

Wedlund Wins MC’s Best Bat Award

Caradoc Wedlund, the Weathertop right fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .391 batting average with 36 hits, 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 19 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Mordor Conference Batter of the Month honors for September.

Wedlund is batting .292 this season in 148 games with 28 home runs, 103 RBIs and 80 runs scored. He has 141 hits in 483 at-bats.

SC’s Premier Batter Picked

When guys like Old Forest’s Alrond *Hubbard, Jr. win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive September, the longtime Shire Conference veteran toyed with opposing pitchers, collecting 38 hits in 101 at-bats. The veteran designated hitter hit for a .376 batting average and collected 10 home runs, 20 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Thus far this year, *Hubbard, Jr. is batting .302 with 37 home runs, 87 RBIs and 116 runs scored.
