Great Week for Isengard’s Ragnar *Stonecutter III

A battle-tested Ragnar *Stonecutter III declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 34-year-old Isengard shortstop collected the Mordor Conference Player of the Week Award.

He wrapped up the week with a .550 average, 11 hits in 20 at-bats, 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

To date *Stonecutter III has chalked up a .294 average with 30 home runs, driven in 83 runs and scored 82 times.

Week’s Best Player Honored by SC

Veteran Ferdinand *Puttifoot had a great week at the plate for the Bounders to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the Shire Conference.

The 38-year-old Bywater third baseman built a .333 average on the strength of 8 hits in 24 at-bats, 6 home runs and 8 RBIs.

Presently *Puttifoot is batting .342 with 179 hits and 60 home runs. He has knocked in 142 runs and scored 120 times.

Dol Guldur Off to the Postseason

The Dol Guldur Dragons have officially clinched a spot in the postseason after today’s games. The club of course will still be looking to capture the top spot in the Mordor Conference Troll Division, but their 86-62 record to this point guarantees a playoff berth.

Buckland Inks 1-Year Pact

The Bounders inked a deal with 36-year-old Celain Buckland today signaling that it not only wanted him on the field but in the clubhouse.

Publicly, Celain Buckland has spoken highly of Bywater, so the extension wasn’t a total surprise.

Buckland will draw $2,000,000 over the next 1 year.

Up to this point in the season, Buckland has put up these stats: 61 relief appearances, 34 saves, 57 IP, 61 strikeouts and 4.26 ERA. His won-lost record is 5-6 with the opposition is hitting .245 against him.

Xing Wins MC Player of the Week Trophy

The #1 hitter in the Mordor Conference was Weathertop first baseman Qian-hua Xing. He was selected as the Player of the Week.

During the week Xing banged out a .750 batting average (6-for-8), 1 home run, 5 RBI and scored 3 runs.

In 98 games Xing is hitting .240 this season with 36 hits, 6 home runs, 22 RBIs, 16 walks, .314 OBP and has scored 19 runs.

Miners Manthrottler Snags SC Player of the Week

With some great hand-eye coordination and a sweet, compact swing, Moria Miners second baseman Drodgulg Manthrottler took the Shire Conference by storm this past week to take the latest Player of the Week honors.

“The ball was looking like a beach ball all week,” a happy Manthrottler said to BNN reporters. “When it’s that big, it doesn’t matter where they throw it — I can hit it anywhere.”

The 30-year-old second baseman hit .385 (10-for-26) last week with 2 home runs, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

So far this season Manthrottler is hitting .236 with 37 home runs, 81 RBIs and 71 runs scored. He has 125 hits in 530 at-bats and a .285 OBP.

Bramble Fires No-Hitter

The Dol Guldur Dragons relied on no-hit stuff from starter Gorbaduc Bramble to defeat the Minas Morgul Slayers 6-0 at Dol Guldur Stadium today.

“It’s quite a thrill,” Bramble told the media afterward. “This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can’t believe I did it.”

To get his name logged in the Mordor Conference records, he stopped Minas Morgul cold and hitless, surrendering no walks and fanning 9 of the 28 batters he faced.

Dol Guldur manager Lerin Caverncutter was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Bramble “made managing easy today.”

“I didn’t have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do,” he said. “I didn’t even have to come up with a pinch hitter.”

In 20 starts this year Bramble has posted 8 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 150.2 innings, allowed 134 hits, struck out 110 and has a 3.05 ERA.

Year Ends for Lançarote Walik in Old Forest

The Old Forest Merry Fellows and their fans were rocked today by the news that star reliever Lançarote Walik would miss the rest of the season due to injury. Walik was hurt in a recent game against the Rivendell Royals while throwing a pitch. He was immediately removed from the game and taken for examination. Tests today revealed the injury was a torn ulnar collateral ligament. His doctors think that Walik will miss about 14 months.

For the season Walik is 6-and-5 with 6 saves and a 3.16 ERA. He has given up 63 hits in 82.2 innings with 103 strikeouts.
