Closing In: Carrock Nears Two Towers With Dramatic Game 4 Win

A clutch 9th inning gave the Carrock Bears a walk-off win over the Rivendell Royals and a 3-1 lead in the Fellowship Series at Old League Park. Young right fielder Tayyar Gwaimir, 23, earned kudos after he went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once.

The decisive blow was delivered by Brobzugh Livertrembler in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a solo home run off fireballing 6′ 9″ left-hander Snugzog Deathskull to win the game for Carrock. The home crowd went nuts.

“What a buzz,” said Livertrembler after it was over.

Lumberjacks Clip Dragons, 5-4, in Fellowship Contest

In a crucial game, the Lothlorien Lumberjacks put on their best show, beating the Dol Guldur Dragons by a final score of 5-4. Beppe Smirti threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Lothlorien and Dol Guldur are now tied at 2 wins apiece in the best-of-7 affair.

Who knows how it would’ve ended, had it not been for Merry Gamwich? The fan favorite Gamwich stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Lothlorien up, 5-4. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

“We lost,” Dol Guldur manager Vrsong the Drooler said later. “We’ll deal with it. The series isn’t over.”

In a crucial game, the Minas Morgul Slayers put on their best show, beating the Numenor Kings by a final score of 4-2. Krutrush Trollthrottler went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Minas Morgul and Numenor are now tied at 2 wins apiece in the best-of-7 affair.

The Minas Morgul dugout showed signs of unrest at times. But the Slayers put this one in the win column with some good pitching and some timely hitting at critical moments.

Bywater Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in Series

Ørjan Mørkved pitched a gem to help the Bywater Bounders escape with a tight, 2-0 victory over the Old Forest Merry Fellows in a low-scoring Fellowship Series contest. The right-handed Mørkved threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball in the win, just enough for the Bounders on a day when their offense dried up. Bywater now leads the best-of-7 series 2-1.

Mørkved confounded Old Forest hitters. Over 7 innings, he allowed no runs on 2 hits.

“Ørjan was throwing strikes, locating well,” said Bywater manager Sulak Daggerdrinker.

Carrock Takes 2-1 Series Lead with Walk-off Win

When the games really matter, the Carrock Bears put on their best show, beating the Rivendell Royals by a final score of 4-3. Oltina Bellas threw 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs. Carrock now leads Rivendell 2-1 in the best-of-7 affair.

Sam *Oakenstaff was the walk-off hero for Carrock. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Bears first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

“This wasn’t a good win,” said *Oakenstaff. “It was a great win.”

Lothlorien Breaks Through for First Win in Fellowship Series; Now Trails 2-1

Already down in the Fellowship Series, the Lothlorien Lumberjacks put on their best show, beating the Dol Guldur Dragons by a final score of 2-0. Kesil Czempa was special. He threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Lothlorien now trails Dol Guldur 2-1 in the best-of-7 affair.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Tigzava Tunnelbiter was at the plate when Lothlorien scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Lumberjacks to go in front, 1-0.

“It’s a big deal,” Tunnelbiter said of the win. “If we had gone to 0-3, we’re pretty much out of it.”

Slayers Hammered by Trollthrottler, Drop Game 3 to Kings

Riding the 3-hit performance of third baseman Krutrush Trollthrottler, the Numenor Kings stopped the visiting Minas Morgul Slayers, 10-8, in Game 3 of the Fellowship Series. Trollthrottler went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Kings, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.

Màrku Hammersmelter hit a grand slam home run off Mablung Melwasul in the bottom of the second, which put the Kings ahead, 7-3. In addition to the homer, Hammersmelter had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.

Slayers manager Mimosa Willow did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that she would hold a press conference “if and when we win the Return of the King Series.”

Carrock Win Evens Series at 1

The Carrock Bears took down the Rivendell Royals by the score of 4-2 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Fellowship Series. The largest share of the credit belongs to Carrock starter Nieven Stryjski, who threw 5.0 innings allowing 2 runs.

Tayyar Gwaimir had a direct impact on the outcome. Gwaimir contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Carrock up, 3-2.

Gwaimir said the win provided a “big morale boost” for the team. “There’s a good feeling in the clubhouse right now.”

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Old League Park.

Bywater Win Evens Series at 1

The Bywater Bounders defeated the Old Forest Merry Fellows, 2-0, in Game 2 of the Fellowship Series. Doing his part was starter Briblag the Mangler, who threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball. The win moves Bywater into a 1-1 tie with Old Forest in the series.

the Mangler, the Bywater right-hander, went 7.2 innings, allowing no runs on 8 hits. He collected 8 strikeouts.

“Briblag is tough when he’s hitting his spots,” said Bywater manager Sulak Daggerdrinker.

The next game is set to be played for Friday, October 13th , 2051 at The Water Park.

Dol Guldur Pins 1-0 Loss on Lothlorien

Dol Guldur Dragons manager Vrsong the Drooler knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 23-year-old left-hander Iver Durieux silenced the host Lothlorien Lumberjacks at Celebrant Field. The Dragons shut out the Lumberjacks by a final score of 1-0, to give the Dragons a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Fellowship Series.

Dol Guldur starter Iver Durieux was exceptional. The 6-foot-5 left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits over 8 innings of work.

In comments to the Dol Guldur Today, Durieux admitted he’s been told to improve his work habits. “But,” he said, “I know when to take it to another gear.”

The next game is set to be played for Thursday, October 12th , 2051 at Dol Guldur Stadium.
